The Influence of Self-esteem and Academic Stress Coping Ability on University Life Adaptation of Male Nursing Students

Abstract

|
Purpose: This study is a descriptive research study to identify the effect of self-esteem and academic stress coping ability on university life adaptation of male nursing students.
Methods: The research subjects were 142 male nursing students and data collection period was from April 1 to July 30, 2018 in B city. Collected data were analyzed by means of SPSS 21.0 program, and general traits t-test and ANOVA, post examination, Scheffe' test, grade point average, standard deviation, Pearson¡¯s correlation, and stepwise multiple regression.
Results: The result showed that self-esteem and academic stress coping ability were positive correlation (r=.57, p<.001); academic stress coping ability and university life adaptation were positive correlation (r=.35, p<.001); self-esteem and university life adaptation were positive correlation (r=.57, p<.001).
Conclusion: The significant variables affecting university life adaptation were self-esteem, university life satisfaction, perceived health status, and major satisfaction with 43% overall explanatory power. Based on this study, it is necessary to develop university life adaptation care programs that can improve their ability to cope with academic stress.
